IN PERSON COURSE

The focus of the painting classes is to train the student in the basic skills needed to paint in oils with particular attention to the use of color, light, shadow, composition, brush handling and materials. Students work from photographs from either the instructor or from their own collection. Every class, a weekly challenge will be demonstrated focusing on either subject matter, technique or other various painting elements. The student can watch the demo and either execute the exercise or use the demo as a learning tool and apply to their continuing project. All levels.

Understand the power of pastel! In this class students will learn how to work with several pastels, surfaces and techniques. A range of subject matter will be addressed such as still life, landscape, animals, and more

In this workshop students will learn how to depict a variety of animals with focus on proportion, form, texture, and color. Demonstrations in various media and subject matter will be given. Students may work in any medium they prefer and can either work from the reference given by the instructor or their own reference.

This class is perfect for anyone looking to pursue a colored medium with a drawing mindset. Color theory, value and form will be addressed and demonstrated in both step by step and exercise-based lessons to help students learn how to take their drawing skills to the next level while introducing color with pastels.

Whether you are an experienced painter or looking to brush up on your skills, this class is perfect for exploring new styles, techniques, and furthering your artistic creativity. Demonstrations in various media such as oil, pastel, acrylic, watercolor, and others will be given throughout the session. Every week a new technique or idea will be discussed and shown to expose students to new ways of tackling painting within their own practice. No matter what your style or medium, all artists will get exposure and inspiration throughout the course while picking up useful tips to experiment with along their painting journey.

Add color to your canvas with instruction on achieving correct color, value, texture, temperature, soft and hard edges, atmospheric perspective, and much more. Demonstrations and topics enhance this fun and relaxed class where you choose to work from either a still life or reference photo. All colored media welcome.

 Mini Masterpieces: How Small Can You Go?

Challenge yourself to think small in this fun, fast-paced workshop where we create tiny 5×7 and smaller works of art! This is a more hands-on, demo-based experience where we’ll explore composition, color, and texture through exercises and guided practice. You’ll have the freedom to experiment with different mediums (pastels, watercolor, or mixed media), and we’ll finish by laminating your favorites as bookmarks or matting them as tiny treasures. Participants should bring their preferred materials. 

Mini mats and laminator provided!

Friday May 9 9:30-1:30

 Ready to give the world of soft pastels a try? This step-by-step, 1-day workshop will teach you the essentials—from understanding values and blending techniques to creating texture and form. We’ll walk through the process together while completing a simple but striking subject (think landscapes, flowers, or animals). 

All materials provided for this introductory workshop.

Friday May 30 9:30-1:30

 Explore the rich world of colored pencils in this practical, technique-focused, 1-day workshop. We’ll cover layering, blending, and creating smooth gradients while experimenting with different pressures and color combinations. Expect less talk and more doing, as you’ll spend most of the session completing small exercises and finishing a mini piece to take home. Participants should bring their own colored pencils and paper. 

A supply list will be provided upon registration.

Friday June 13 9:30-1:30

 Gain confidence in choosing and mixing colors in this hands-on, exercise-driven, 1-day workshop. Through guided demos and practical exercises, you’ll explore color harmony, complementary contrasts, and how to create dynamic palettes. Perfect for painters and pastel artists alike, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of how color works and a reference sheet for future projects.

Step by step demonstrations will allow students to create with this under appreciated medium over 8 weeks to hone their skills no matter what level you are coming in at.

Exploring Art & Technique  Ages 9-15    July 16-18, Wed-Fri, 9-1pm

For older kids and budding artists, this boot camp is all about diving deeper into techniques, experimenting with different styles, and learning to think like an artist. Over three days, students will explore a variety of mediums—from acrylic and watercolor to charcoal and ink—and build foundational skills in composition, shading, and texture. This camp emphasizes experimentation and creative risk-taking, helping young artists develop their unique style while learning how to analyze, adapt, and refine their work. Whether they love drawing, painting, or mixed media, they’ll walk away with new skills, fresh inspiration, and the confidence to keep creating!
